URGENT CAMPAIGN

NO WATER.
NO HOUSE BUILDING.

The Labour Government is forcing Kent to take tens of thousands of new homes.

But there is one major problem.

We don't have the water.

South East Water has already warned local councils that existing water infrastructure cannot support the scale of housing growth being demanded by the Government.

For example, in Tonbridge & Malling alone, South East Water told the Council that its plans could only supply water for around 6,300 additional homes, while Government housing targets require almost 20,000 homes to be built. The company has confirmed that current and planned supply is insufficient to support the level of development being proposed. Major infrastructure upgrades are not expected until at least 2032. This will be replicated elsewhere.

So why are thousands more homes still being forced onto our communities?

Residents across Kent have already experienced water shortages, loss of supply, low pressure and hosepipe restrictions. Families are increasingly being asked to use less water while politicians demand more development.

It is completely backwards.

Our Principle

If there isn't enough water, there shouldn't be more houses.

Before major new developments are approved, water companies must prove they can provide a reliable supply to existing and future residents.

That means:
  • Water infrastructure before housing development.

  • Investment in reservoirs, pipelines and water resilience.

  • Roads, schools and GP surgeries delivered alongside growth.

  • An end to Whitehall housing targets that ignore local infrastructure constraints.

Kent cannot continue to absorb thousands of new homes while basic infrastructure struggles to cope. We are calling on the Government to halt major housing developments in Kent until adequate water infrastructure is in place.

Because when you turn on the tap, you should know water is going to come out.
